Mother Delivers Baby While Driving to Hospital

6:58 PM EDT, October 19, 2010. WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WGHP) - A pregnant woman had to deliver her baby in a parking lot after attempting to drive herself to the hospital on Sunday failed.

Aaliyah Haqq, 31, gave birth to her sixth child Yusef Haqq in the parking lot of a beauty shop on Walkertown Road after her water broke.

"It's not something you can really hold back," said Haqq.

The mother's sister, Miranda Colston spotted her car on the side of the road, while on her way to the hospital.

"She began to push and I delivered the baby," said Colston. "I'm trying to guide the baby out of her body and I'm thinking to myself, 'Oh my God, don't drop the baby …'"

With her five other kids in the car, Haqq frantically attempted to get herself to the hospital. For her 13-year-old daughter, it might be a ride she'll never forget.

"She was driving recklessly," said Ayanna Haqq. "It was terrifying. She was swerving and driving all over the road."

Now safe and sound at Forsyth Medical Center, the family can laugh about the wild ride they took and what about a miracle it really is.

"I think the thing that stood out the most was the 2-year-old who was just staring like, 'Where did that baby come from,'" said Haqq.

Besides raising six children, Haqq is a student at Gulford Technical Community College studying business.
