JACKSON — A festive event is scheduled today at Riley Hospital to welcome its newest arrival.
CuddleBugs, a program designed to educate and prepare new and expectant mothers for every stage of pregnancy, labor and delivery, as well as newborn care, will be introduced at a baby fest – complete with food, fun activities, informative presentations and even door prizes; and all free.
Described as the ultimate resource for new and expectant moms, CuddleBugs offers a variety of services to new moms who deliver at Riley Hospital. These include everything from free childbirth classes, to classes on breastfeeding and what to expect in the labor and delivery process.
“Providing support and guidance to ensure our new moms are confident in their abilities are the driving forces behind CuddleBugs at Riley Hospital,” said Sharon Futch, hospital recruiter.
“Our staff is dedicated to providing engaging, educational opportunities for new moms through CuddleBugs. In fact, classes are taught by our hospital’s finest labor and delivery nurses,” Futch said.
CuddleBugs is designed to ensure that everything will get off to a great start for expectant moms and their babies from the very beginning. New moms have questions and CuddleBugs provides answers from the earliest stages of pregnancy through post-delivery.
In addition to a free gift, moms who register for the program will receive monthly e-newsletters and will have access to classes and services focused on the following:
• Labor and Delivery (L&D): The various stages and the progression of labor are covered, along with techniques and interventions, such as pain control, positioning and pushing, breathing techniques and prenatal exercise.
• Newborn Care: Diapering, bathing, comforting and feeding, along with infant/child CPR are covered.
• Breastfeeding: Building your knowledge and comfort level is the goal of this class. Instruction, tips and techniques are shared.
• Sibling class: Helps older child adjust to the idea of having a new baby in the family.
• Post Partum: Focuses on the changes that will occur following delivery. The staff will help moms prepare for those changes and teach them how to care for themselves.
“Riley Hospital is committed to providing a variety of services for new moms who deliver at our hospital. We have a wide variety of skilled and caring doctors on our staff and will help you choose one that’s right for your family,” said Futch.
Doctors and other medical representatives from Greater Meridian Health Clinic, the Women's Group of Meridian, the Women's Wellness Institute and Women's Medical Center of Meridian will be available at today's kick-off event to answer questions. Also available will be a lactation specialist as well as a car seat safety specialists from the Meridian Police Department.
In addition to food and fun activities – for moms and family members – other highlights of the baby fest include a tour of the hospital's Birth Center, hand and foot massages, expectant /new mom photos, and a nursery room display. The grand door prize will be a car seat/stroller combination.
