MANILA, Philippines - After falling ill along with her children Josh and Baby James—contracting hand-foot-and-mouth disease or HFMD (reportedly a "mild, contagious viral infection common in young children”)—Kris Aquino finally goes back to work.
As reported on “The Buzz” on Oct. 17, Kris had reported back to the set of her movie, “Dalaw,” Friday last week.
With “Dalaw” being dubbed a “blockbuster-in-the-making” on the same report, Kris—whom Boy Abunda referred to as the “undisputed queen of horror movies”—shared, “Maganda, excited ako talaga kasi, uhm, it’s my third horror. Added pressure, of course, because the first two were blockbusters. Nakakatulong naman kasi this will be part of the Metro Manila Film Fest that’s why araw-araw ang shoot. It’s nice to be back working and it’s nice to be back acting.”
On his first-time leading man, Diether Ocampo, Kris said, “Naiilang pa siya, siyempre kasi mag-asawa kami [sa pelikula].”
Although it seems surprising, this is indeed their first pairing. “Although we’ve known each other forever, as in, talagang we’ve never worked together,” she noted.
Kris was out of commission for about a week when she and the kids had to be practically quarantined, having been holed up in their condo in order to avoid spreading the disease and going into a relapse. At one point, she and Baby James had to stay in one room when Kris’ elder son, Josh, started recovering in order not to pass their fever back to him.
“Kawawa ‘yung mga kids,” Kris recalls in the taped interview. “Kasi, you know how a singaw is? Times 12 mo ‘yun. On the tongue, all over the roof of your mouth… near the throat. So hindi talaga sila maka-lunok, hindi sila maka-kain. Ako ‘yung sinuwerte [na] hindi nagkaron non. Super taas lang talaga ‘yung lagnat, super saki ng ulo at hindi ka makagalaw. But, parang we were sick on Wednesday… by Saturday night, papuntang Sunday, wala na kaming fever.”
But during the interview, Kris happily announced that she and the kids are now doing much better. “They’re both fine,” she said of the kids. “Josh is back at school. Si Bimby kasi, nasabihan kami na there were several kids in class na pinauwi so Monday na lang siya papasok dahil baka mahawa uli. But he’s okay.”
And for Kris, she feels that one other aspect of her life is somehow turning around. Greeting her just out of her recovery period are rumors that estranged husband James is dating again. Kris is currently fighting to have her five-year marriage to the basketball star annulled.
“I praise God and I thank God, Okay? For that! Kasi the quicker he moves on, and the faster na meron siyang magustuhan talaga, hindi na niya pahihirapan ‘yung annulment. We’ll both be free… we’ll both be happy,” she said sweetly.
“Siyempre ide-deny niya [kasi] katabi niya ‘yung lawyer (Atty. Lorna Kapunan) niya,” Kris remarked when told that James refuted the reports romantically linking him to model-actress Isabel Oli.
“I see her commercials. She’s really very pretty,” Kris says of Isabel. “I’m the ex, ‘di ba, so wala na ako dapat opinyon. In the same way na, in the future, ‘pag meron na akong dine-date or whatever, dapat wala na rin siyang opinyon.”
Kris hopes this would be a good start of their separate lives. “I think alam naming dalawa na the sooner that it’s behind us, the faster kaming pwedeng magkakaron ng pagkakataon na lumigaya.”
Asked if she’s ready to open her heart again, she replies, “It will come when it comes…”
