Millions of baby strollers and thousands of cribs were recalled this week after dangerous malfunctions were found. Here's a look at some of the recalls this week:
DETAILS: Graco Children's Products Inc. of Atlanta is recalling strollers after receiving reports of infant deaths between 2003 and 2005. The recalled strollers are older versions of the Graco Quattro Tour and MetroLite strollers and travel systems, all made before 2007 and distributed by Graco. They were sold at retailers including Babies R Us, Burlington Coat Factory, Fred Meyer, Meijers, Navy Exchange, Sears, Target, and Walmart between November 2000 and December 2007.
WHY: If babies aren't strapped into the strollers properly, they can slide through the opening between the stroller tray and bottom of the seat where they can get stuck and be strangled.
INCIDENTS: Four infants became trapped and died. The Consumer Product Safety Commission also said it was aware of five reports of infants becoming trapped, resulting in cuts and bruises, and one report of an infant having difficulty breathing.
HOW MANY: About 2 million.
FOR MORE: Call (800) 345-4109 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. eastern time Monday through Friday. Visit: www.cpsc.gov or www.gracobaby.com.
BABY CRIBS. DETAILS: Danbury, Conn.-based Ethan Allen; Pennsville, N.J.-based Angel Line; and Bartlett, Ill.-based Victory Land have recalled cribs. The Ethan Allen products were sold at company stores from 2002 to 2008. The Angel Line cribs were sold at Ababy.com, Babyage.com and other online stores from December 2004 to January 2009. The Victory Land cribs, its Heritage Collection line 3-in-1 cribs made in Vietnam, were sold by Kmart from February 2007 to October 2008.
WHY: The cribs have drop-sides that can detach due to faulty hardware or wear and tear, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. This can create a gap where young children can be trapped or suffocated.
